Orphans of Natural Disasters
Protecting children and making sure they are able to go back to school after natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, landslide, flash floods and volcano eruptions has become our main focus. There are many children whom are now orphans due to having lost their parents during these disasters.
In Palu alone, 300,000 children have been affected by the late September 2018 earthquake and tsunami. A huge number of children are left orphaned and the majority of them are suffering from:
- Extreme shock
- Trauma
- Fear of being alone
We have worked together with our overseas partner, PKPU, during the emergency relief and recovery response; providing the children of tsunami victims with psychosocial support. Our field assessments show that a majority of orphans now live with their next of kin, or are fostered by other families whom themselves are very poor. Ongoing support is urgently needed so that they can continue their education.
By donating only £15 a month, you are able to give the orphans an opportunity to fulfil their academic potential and provide them with psychosocial support, opening their path to a brighter future.
Project Locations:
- Lombok, NTB province
- Palu, Central Sulawesi province
There are currently 43 registered orphans in Palu and 73 in Lombok waiting for your support. They are in need to continue their education as soon as possible. The waiting list continually increases as we are receiving requests from other location of natural disasters.
