Practicing the Sunnah of Fasting

Practicing the Sunnah of Fasting

The Sunnahs (traditions) of fasting are practices recommended by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). These include having sahur (pre-dawn meal), increasing charity, guarding one’s tongue, enhancing worship, and reading the Quran. Following these Sunnahs is expected to bring profound spiritual and moral benefits to the Muslim community. Here are some Sunnah practices in fasting:

Delaying Sahur:

It is recommended for those intending to fast to have sahur. Having sahur signifies that Islam always brings ease and does not make things difficult. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever intends to fast should have the pre-dawn meal.” (Narrated by Ibn Hibban)

Hastening to Break the Fast:

When it is time to break the fast, it is recommended to break it immediately. Breaking the fast with sweet dates or dates before consuming other foods is also encouraged. Breaking the fast with supplication is also a good practice.

Providing Food for Fasting People:

It is recommended to provide food for those who are fasting. This can be done by providing iftar (fast-breaking) meals to others. By sharing, we gain rewards and blessings.

Increasing Charity:

In the month of Ramadan, we are encouraged to increase our charity. Charity can be in the form of money, food, or assisting others. By giving, we receive blessings and goodness.

Reciting the Quran:

Reciting the Quran is a highly recommended practice in the month of Ramadan. We can increase our reading of the Quran, both during the day and at night. By reading the Quran, we gain rewards and draw closer to Allah.

Dear initiators, let us practice the Sunnahs of fasting during the month of Ramadan. May every good deed of ours be blessed by Allah SWT.
